We are a small Purbeck art gallery celebrating the work of local artists. The Boilerhouse Gallery is easy to find opposite the Corfe Castle railway station in what was once the local milk depot. The gallery is run for and by local artists, and most of us have a studio on site. We have been here since 2002…
Art work for sale includes cards, driftwood, glass, jewellery, painting, photography, pottery, prints, sculpture, stone, textiles and wood – and most artists also work to commission. In more usual times we run workshops and special events with a wider range of art, craft and pop-up food and live music…
We are based at Sandy Hill Studios – a growing complex of artist studios nestled in a small wooded valley under the buzzards of Ballard Down, looking out to the castle ruins. It’s a great place to stop on a walk or cycle tour. Sandy Hill Studios is in the process of setting up a charitable trust to run the studios and organise events – perhaps one day to have a permanent cafe.
We are: Jayne Cunliffe – ceramics, Rachel Huggett – sculpture, Richard Jeffery – photography and ceramics, Tony Kerins – painting and illustration, Janet O’Kane – ceramics, Frances Pollard – ceramics and assemblage, Nicki Shipp – glass and metal, Julie Winsor – paintings, sculpture and jewellery.
Guest Artists:
We are a small co-operative run gallery set up to showcase the work of our members. We do occasionally invite guest artists who have a base in Purbeck – but don’t normally accept work from further afield…
We usually have work by Jane Colquhoun – textile and ceramics, Aline Johnson – glass and textile and Tony Viney – stone vessels
