Rachel Huggett

As Aristide Maillol once said, I express myself in sculpture since I am not a poet.

In Italy I studied sculpture at The Academy of Art in Bologna where I became fascinated by Brancusi and was moved by the simplicity of his work. Japan, where I also lived, revealed to me the underlying meditative quality that runs throughout the culture. I attempt to bring those influences to to my pieces. My work also draws a lot from nature and organic matter. Besides being a sculptress, I am a community artist. I have also done many public commissions in London and Dorset.  My studio is around the corner from the Boilerhouse Gallery.
